National Prostate Cancer Awareness Program
Objective
Encourage African-American men and their loved ones to take a more active role in managing their prostate health, including knowing their numbers and risk factors.
Tactics & Results
Launched a campaign of conversation events in urban cities hosted by faith-based organizations that explored diverse values, beliefs, behaviors and social and cultural mindsets and needs. The events featured notable voices in advocacy, health, nutrition and medical education and an internationally recognized R&B entertainer and prostate cancer survivor, and his wife. More than 1,000 African-American men and their loved ones participated in and learned about the disproportionate impact of this disease on their community, and were motivated to know their numbers and get tested. Secured coverage in African-American-focused and mainstream media.
